Transferring Your Domain

Prerequisites

  • The domain is older than 60 days (new registrations and recent transfers cannot be moved per ICANN policy).
  • Your domain’s registration and renewal fees are paid and the domain is currently active.
  • The administrative contact email address on file for the domain is accessible
  • You have access to the Client Support Area - https://support.thirdhosting.com

Verify Contact Information

It is critical that your domain’s contact information, especially the administrative contact email address, is current. The authorization (EPP) code and transfer approval request will be sent to this address.

  1. Log in to the Third Generation Client Support Area.

  2. Navigate to Domains → My Domains.

  3. Select your domain and review the Contact Information section.

  4. Update any outdated details (particularly the admin email address).

Failure to update contact information may prevent you from completing the transfer.

Unlock Your Domain

Domains are locked by default to prevent unauthorized transfers. You must unlock your domain before proceeding.

  1. In the Client Support Area, navigate to Domains → My Domains.

  2. Select your domain.

  3. Locate the Registrar Lock setting and disable it.

  4. Confirm the status now shows as Unlocked.

Request Domain Transfer Code

Once your contact details are correct and the domain is unlocked, you can request your domain transfer (EPP) code.

  1. In the Client Support Area, go to Domains → My Domains.

  2. Select the domain you want to transfer.

  3. Choose Transfer Domain.

  4. An EPP (Authorization) Code will be generated and emailed to the administrative contact address on file.

  5. Provide this code to your new domain registrar when prompted during their signup or transfer process.

Next Steps

  • After submitting the EPP code to your new registrar, you’ll receive an approval request email.
  • Approve the request to authorize the transfer.
  • Transfers typically complete within 5–7 days depending on the registrar.
  • Once the domain has been successfully transferred, verify your contact information is up-to-date there
  • Update your domain's name servers to point to any new service provider you are using.
